Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 15, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how unflare ("unflare", "we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use the unflare mobile application (the "App") and our website (together, the "Services").
1. Information we collect
Information you provide
- Account information. When you sign in (for example, with Sign in with Apple), we receive an account identifier and, depending on your choices, your email address (which may be a private relay address).
- Skin profile information. The skin condition(s) and subtype(s) you select, severity and duration, your reported food and cosmetic triggers, and your country. This is health-related information that you voluntarily provide so that the App can personalize your results.
- Flare check-ins. Severity ratings and notes you log about flares, and any suspected causes you record.
- Support communications. Information you send us when you contact hello@tryunflare.app.
Information created when you use the App
- Scans and photos. Barcodes you scan and photos you take of ingredient labels or restaurant menus. Photos are processed to read the ingredients or dishes they contain; the resulting product and ingredient analysis may be stored so that future scans (by you or other users) are faster.
- Scan history. A record of the products you scan and the verdicts you received, so you can search your history.
- Usage and device data. Basic technical information such as device type, operating system version, app version, language, and anonymized usage events that help us understand how the App is used and keep it working reliably.
2. How we use your information
- To provide the core service: computing personalized SAFE / CAUTION / AVOID verdicts by matching product analyses against your trigger profile.
- To read ingredient labels and menus from photos using AI-powered image analysis.
- To suggest safer alternative products available in your country.
- To surface patterns between your scans and your flare check-ins ("trigger discovery") — the App never changes your profile without your approval.
- To produce aggregated, anonymized community statistics (for example, "X% of people with your condition report this trigger"). These statistics never identify you.
- To operate, maintain, secure, and improve the Services, and to respond to your support requests.
- To manage subscriptions and free-tier limits.
3. Health-related information
Your skin profile, triggers, and flare logs are sensitive to you, and we treat them that way:
- They are used only to provide and improve the Services as described in this policy.
- They are never sold, and never shared with advertisers.
- They are only ever included in community statistics in aggregated, anonymized form.
- You can view, edit, or delete them at any time from inside the App.
unflare is a general-information tool, not a medical app or health advisory service. We do not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment, and nothing in the App should be used to make treatment decisions — always consult a qualified healthcare professional such as your doctor, dermatologist, or pharmacist. Ingredient and condition information in the App is compiled from publicly available sources, including public health organizations (such as the NHS), which are not affiliated with and do not endorse unflare. See our Terms of Use for the full medical disclaimer.
4. How we share information
We do not sell your personal data. We share information only with:
- Service providers that help us run the Services — such as cloud hosting and database providers, AI processing providers (for reading labels and menus from photos), and payment processing via Apple. These providers process data on our behalf and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes.
- Public product databases. When you scan a barcode we may query public product databases (such as Open Food Facts and Open Beauty Facts). These queries do not include your personal information.
- Legal requirements. If required to do so by law, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of unflare, our users, or others.
- Business transfers. If unflare is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this policy.
5. Data retention and deletion
- We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Services.
- You can delete individual data (such as triggers or scan history entries) or your entire account and all associated data from inside the App.
- You can also request deletion by emailing hello@tryunflare.app. We will act on verified requests within a reasonable time.
- Anonymized, aggregated data that cannot identify you may be retained after deletion.
6. Security
We use industry-standard technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to protect your data appropriately for its sensitivity.
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export your personal data, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent. You can exercise most of these directly in the App, or by contacting hello@tryunflare.app. You may also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
8. Children
The Services are not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us at hello@tryunflare.app and we will delete it.
9. International transfers
Your information may be processed in countries other than your own. Where that happens, we take steps designed to ensure your data receives an adequate level of protection consistent with this policy and applicable law.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you through the App or by other reasonable means. The "Last updated" date at the top shows when this policy was last revised.
